English Language Proficiency Requirements
Applicants who did not earn their bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction must submit official test scores for one of the following:
- TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 90
- IELTS: Minimum score of 7
UC Law SF’s TOEFL code is 4342.
Proficiency testing must have been completed in the last two years at the time of application.

Students who have received their undergraduate degree from a country other than the U.S. or Canada must have their transcripts evaluated and authenticated by an approved foreign credential agency. For a list of approved agencies, please see http://www.naces.org.
Students who received a J.D. outside the U.S. are not eligible for this program. Instead, they should visit our LL.M. program, which is designed for professionals who have already obtained a law degree.
Visa and Documentation
International students will submit all required visa documentation after they have been admitted and paid their deposit. For fall enrollment, visa materials must be received by early June. For spring starts, the visa submission deadline is early to mid-October.
