English Language Proficiency Requirements
If an applicant did not successfully complete an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited institution where English is the primary language of instruction, the applicant must submit an official TOEFL or IELTS score report.
TOEFL and/or IELTS scores should be less than two years old.
The minimum required scores for admission are:
- TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 90
- IELTS: Minimum score of 7
To submit an official TOEFL score report to UC Law SF, please go to the ETS website and request your official report to be sent to us. UC Law SF’s school code is 4342.

Students who have received their undergraduate degree from a country other than the U.S. or Canada must have their transcripts evaluated and authenticated by an approved foreign credential agency. UC Law SF must receive the evaluation report and a copy of the authenticated transcripts and diplomas from the approved foreign credential agency. Students who received a J.D. outside the U.S. are not eligible for this program. Instead, they should visit our LL.M. program, which is designed for professionals who have already obtained a law degree.
Visa and Documentation
International students will submit all required visa documentation after they have been admitted and paid their deposit. For fall enrollment, visa materials must be received by early June. For spring starts, the visa submission deadline is early to mid-October.
